In these works, the figures' appearance, the situations, and the costumes seem more realistic than in works from the 1760s. Customs and costumes were faithfully depicted, down to the smallest details. Préaud discusses the attention to detail and clothing which differs from the earlier groups and notes that the elegant figures seem to have stepped straight out of the works of Moreau the Younger and the fashion engravings that were just beginning to develop in the mid-1770s.
