Decorated with gilt arabesque scrollwork against a beau bleu ground between cartouches painted with fruiting still lives on either end, the overlapping handles with gilt-edged foliate terminals, 23.5cm long; 9.3cm high, interlaced LL monogram with date letter jj, unidentified painter's mark Y and gilder's mark for Henri-Martin Prévost (active 1757-97)

This sauceboat is from the service given to the Comte d'Aranda in July 1787 and was one of four sets of "saucières et plateaux" sold for 228 livres each. The service was a diplomatic gift from Louis XVI to Pedro Pablo Abarca de Bolea Ximinez de Urréa, Conde de Aranda (y de Castelflorido) Spanish Ambassador-Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France and principal advisor to King Carlos III of Spain.
