Of slightly waisted oval form, moulded in high relief with overlapping basketweave, with a simulated ropetwist band above the foot, the flared rim and foot with gilt-metal mounts and a swing handle, 15.3cm wide including mount, incised triangle mark

Only three examples of this rare form are known; all left in the white and with gilt-metal mounts. The basket shape is copying silver cake or fruit baskets of the same period, which themselves reference an organic, wicker form. The two other recorded examples are in private collection and in Colonial Williamsburg, illustrated by John C Austin, 1977, p.33, fig.14, respectively. The example at Williamsburg has a fixed overhead handle.
