The boats intricately carved with figures on deck and peering out of windows, each incised with extracts from the Ode to the Red Cliff by Su Shi (1037-1101), comprising: three boat carvings signed by the artist and dated to a jiawu year, corresponding to 1834; three signed by the artist and undated; one unsigned and dated March of a jiazi year, corresponding to 1864; one unsigned and undated; and five carved stands.
