Perhaps inspired by the statue of Serapis discovered in the macellum or market building discovered at Pozzuoli during the excavations ordered by Charles VII of Naples between 1750-59. Another example, said to be hard-paste porcelain, is in the Seattle Art Museum, inv. no. 87.142.42. Another, in the David Collection, Copenhagen, has been attributed to Saint Cloud.
