The price list of Worcester's London warehouse, circa 1755-56, provides a realistic date for these tureens and also confirms that 'Partridges enamel'd' were available in two sizes and confirms their early date. The present lot represents the larger size, which sold for 8 shillings each and is much rarer than the smaller examples. They were usually sold in pairs with a 'left' and 'right' facing bird. An example from the Crane Collection was sold by Bonhams on 31 March 2020, lot 207.
