The Bow Dismal Hounds must rank as the most sensitive and refined of 18th-century English porcelain animal models, the sense of movement conveyed so successfully. They vary considerably in modelling and decoration, with pairs only rarely found, see those illustrated by Anne McNair, Catalogue of the Lady Ludlow Collection of English Porcelain, 2007, p.47, no.17 and by Peter Bradshaw, Bow Porcelain Figure, 1992, p.166, fig.188. A further pair from the Elizabeth Adams Collection was sold by Bonhams on 19 June 2024, lot 289. An example attributed to St James's (Charles Gouyn) in the Victoria and Albert Museum is illustrated by Elizabeth Adams, , 2001, p.51, fig.5.10.
