William Cookworthy advertised in the local Worcester newspapers for painters skilled in the use of enamel or blue to join him at the Plymouth factory and the decoration is almost certainly the work of a former Worcester painter, although this celebrated pattern ultimately derives from Chinese famille verte. A similar example was sold by Bonhams on 13 September 2006, lot 160. Mary White notes how only teapots and mugs were produced in this pattern at Plymouth.
