This is one of a pair of models which was probably intended to be matched with a ewe and lamb, see Anton Gabszewicz and Geoffrey Freeman, Bow Porcelain, 1982, p.151, no.252 for the companion model. Both models are after Meissen originals and were also made at Chelsea and Derby, as well as in Staffordshire saltglaze stoneware, see lot 110 for a related 'Dry Edge' Derby version.
