Kaendler modelled a small pug in May 1740, recorded in his work records as "wie einer lieget und sich mit d. linken hinteren Pfote die Flöhe abscharret' [he lays and looks around him]; see R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, nos. 1089 and 1090 for another example and its counterpart.
