A similar jug from the Brenda Dunning Collection was sold by Bonhams on 22 June 2022, lot 452. See also the example painted by J H O'Neale from the Billie Pain Collection, sold by Bonhams on 26 November 2003, lot 32, also illustrated on the dustjacket. The style of painting on the present lot has previously been attributed to O'Neale but it is likely to be by another hand working in the manner of Meissen. This shape became known as the 'Chelsea Ewer', later issued by Worcester and Lowestoft among other English factories in 'high' or 'low' forms.
