The square tile is possibly from the Youguo temple in Kaifeng, Henan. The temple was originally founded in the tenth year of Tianbao of the Northern Qi dynasty (559 AD), it was frequented by the Emperors for leisure and Buddhist rituals. The pagoda was built in 989 but destroyed in 1044 by lightning, it was then reconstructed in 1049 with reddish-brown glazed bricks that have an iron-like appearance which gave rise to the name 'iron pagoda'.
