Literature
White, Mary, People at the Whites' House, Vol.5, 2024, p.87
The original Meissen version of this figure by Peter Reinicke is from the series created for the Duke of Weissenfels, based upon the engraving by Joullain after Jacques Callot, see Meredith Chilton, Harlequin Unmasked, 2001, no.105, fig.316. The present figure may have been copied from a Chelsea or Bow version rather than directly from Meissen. For a Chelsea figure of Scapin after a Meissen Commedia dell'Arte original from the same series, see lot 149 in this sale.
