There seem to have been two different models with the same description and unfortunately there is no way to differentiate between these in the archives. For another example and a discussion of the model, see Tamara Préaud and Guilhelm Scherf, La Manufacture des Lumières - La sculpture à Sèvres de Louis XV à la Révolution, 2015, p. 90, cat. no. 7. See also Tamara Préaud and Antoinette Fay-Hallé, Porcelaines de Vincennes - Les Origines de Sèvres, 1977, p. 165, no. 481.
The model is related to another, that of a sleeping child (""), both of which have traditionally been attributed to the Belgian sculptor François Duquesnoy, also known as Le Flamand (1597–1643).
