Intricately cast and richly adorned with beaded jewelry, Yama Dharmaraja is a Tantric Buddhist wisdom deity and the principal protector of the Anuttarayoga Tantra, particularly venerated by practitioners of the Vajrabhairava Tantra. As one of the three principal Dharma protectors of the Geluk tradition, Yama Dharmaraja was held in especially high esteem at the Qing court, where imperial patronage encouraged the production of large, finely crafted gilt-bronze sculptures.
