Compare with a related white jade sword ornament with a chilong, Song dynasty, in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade, 5, Beijing, 2011, p.130, no.137. Such carvings were inspired by archaic examples. See for example, an earlier prototype of a jade bixie, Han dynasty, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Jadeware (I), Hong Kong, 1995, pl.201.
