Cast in the form of a small rectangular vessel with canted corners, supported by two human figures, each with a half-face emerging from the side of the vessel and looking in opposite directions. Their arms are outstretched and legs splayed as if straining beneath the weight of the vessel. The rounded top is hinged at the center, allowing one half to flip open onto the other and revealing the enclosed interior fitted with a pricket for a wax taper. Box lamps decorated with human, rather than animal, motifs are exceedingly rare.
