JAPAN, EDO PERIOD (18TH-19TH CENTURY), SIGNED <i>SHUNSHO KAGEMASA</i> AND SEALED <i>KAGEMASA</i> (SHUNSHO LINEAGE)
The vertical rectangular body with a rich <i>roiro</i> ground finely lacquered with an all-over design depicting the Earth Spider generating monsters at Lord Minamoto Yorimitsu's Mansion after a woodblock print design by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, rendered in gold and silver <i>togidashi maki-e </i>and<i> iro-e takamaki-e </i>with details of inlaid <i>aogai </i>(shell) and <i>e-nashiji</i>, the interior cases of <i>nashiji </i>with red-lacquered ceilings, the top case with an inner removable ensuite fitted silver box and cover, signed on the bottom case in gold <i>hiramaki-e</i> <i>Shunsho Kagemasa</i> with seal <i>Kagemasa.</i>
