This altarpiece comprises a central figure of Vishnu flanked by his consorts, the goddesses Shri Devi and Bhu Devi. Shri Devi embodies prosperity and good fortune, while Bhu Devi personifies the earth. The three figures stand on individual lotus pedestals set upon a tiered base with lion feet and are framed by a flaming aureole surmounted by a kirtimukha. The group continues a sculptural tradition that flourished under the Pallava and Chola dynasties and was perpetuated under the Vijayanagara rulers across much of present-day Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Compare the closely related flaming aureole and robust modelling of a standing copper alloy figure of Ganesha from Tamil Nadu in the British Museum (1824,0414.5).
