清雍正 外胭脂紅釉内粉彩仕女童子圖薄胎盤一對
Provenance: Vandekar family collection, thence by descent (each bearing a label dated July 1946 to the reverse)
Around 1720, a new opaque palette of overglaze colours was developed in China. The introduction of a new opaque white significantly expanded the range of colours available to potters. Some of the most technically accomplished fencai wares, as seen in the present lot, were produced during Emperor Yongzheng's reign. This type of dish, made from eggshell-thin porcelain, is known as ruby-back ware due to the pink colour on its exterior. See a similar famille rose ruby-back 'lady and boys' dish, in the collection of the British Museum, acc.no.388066001.
See also a similar famille rose ruby-back 'lady and boys' dish, Yongzheng period, which was sold at Christie's New York, 21st January 2016, lot 153.
