The figure seated in a meditative pose, with the right leg crossed over the left and right hand touching the face, wearing a skirt falling in wide pleats and decorated with flowers and scrolling foliage, set on a faceted pedestal and lotus petal base decorated with birds amongst fruiting and blossoming trees. 32cm (12 5/8in) high.

This combination of posture and gesture, a pan-Asian iconography known as the "pensive pose," became popular in Korea in the sixth and seventh centuries, influenced particularly by prototypes in Chinese Buddhist art of the mid-sixth century.
