说明:Censers of the present cylindrical form inspired by archaic bronze lian with cabriole feet appear to have been particularly popular around the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Compare a smaller censer of related form in the Palace Museum, Beijing, decorated with a Daoist scene in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (II), Hong Kong, 2000, pl. 43.
The present design of the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang) was similarly formalized in the fifteenth century and continued to be refined into the sixteenth century. Compare a similar design of bajixiang among scrolling lotuses on a covered jar of Jiajing mark and period in Enlightening Elegance. Imperial Porcelain of the Mid to Late Ming: The Huaihaitang Collection, Art Museum, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2012, cat. no. 38.
