己酉十一月，瞽叟爰。
註：大千晚歲病目，一九六九年初赴紐約欲接受新興激光法治療，惜療效未彰，反有失明之慮。本幅寫於此時，取狹長紙材作畫，只見荷花自葉叢斜出，隨風招展，筆墨恣肆，似信手拈來，機趣天成。落款「瞽叟」即舜父，因雙目失明而得名，畫家語帶雙關，自詡未礙目患，自滿得意之色躍然紙上！
