说明：The present figure depicts the bodhisattva Manjushri seated in padmasana with his hands raised in the dharmachakra ('turning of the Wheel of Dharma') mudra. Unlike more common depictions of the deity with sword upraised, the present figure represents the deity's 'undefiled' manifestation with the Wisdom Sword and Prajna-paramita Sutra floating above his shoulders.
Compare a closely related slightly later fifteenth century depiction of the deity sold at Christie's Paris, 12th June 2012, lot 408; another sold in our Paris rooms, 12th December 2024, lot 2; and a sixteenth century figure of more elongated proportions (Himalayan Art Resource, no. 24154), sold at Christie's New York, 13th September 2016, lot 216.
