说明：This finely painted jar is striking for its dynamic green and red dragons, striding in pursuit of flaming pearls amidst lingzhi-shaped clouds and flickering flames. The vigorous design is enhanced by the doucai technique, in which the underglaze-blue outlines are enlivened with contrasting overglaze enamels, the combination of colours distinguishing the present jar from the more commonly encountered examples decorated in green enamel.
Compare a Daoguang doucai jar of this form and design, but decorated with a red dragon, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 19th March 1991, lot 656. For the more commonly encountered version with the design enamelled in green within underglaze-blue outlines, compare a Daoguang marked jar and cover in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Illustrated Catalogue of Ch’ing Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, vol.
