Ink and colours on silk, mounted as a hanging scroll. Still life (qinggong tu) with spring flowers and lingzhi mushrooms. In the upper area of the mount a title field with commentary in grass script by Li Renren, in which he dated the picture to the Ming dynasty. Dated the 32nd year (of the Republic period) [1943], sign. Li Renren, sealed: Li Renren, ci sheng.
From an old German private collection, mostly acquired in Asia in the 1960s/1970s, since then in family possession - Painting partially age-damaged, minimally creased
Li Renren, whose courtesy name was Chongyi, was from Lingui in Guangxi and was a teacher of Bai Chongxi. In 1910, he joined the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance). In the 1930s, he twice served as Director of the Ministry of Education of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In 1948, he became a member of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese People's Party (Kuomingdang). After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, he was a member of the Political and Legal Committee of the State Council, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee, a member of the Central and Southern Military and Political Committees, and Vice Governor of Guangxi Province
