Splendidly carved in circular form raised on a flat foot, tapering to an oval neck and straight mouth, finely executed with two horses grazing on a grassy meadow by a majestic pine and paulownia, inscribed in xingshu 'Ruo yu zhang fu neng kong yun' (Meeting the right mentor one can attain the clouds), alluding to legend of Bole (3rd century AD) who chose the right steed to battle and rose to victory, reversed by a sage peering toward the distant hills, a xingshu inscription reading 'Ren cong qi qu mi feng hou' (In seeking poetry, one can find prosperity), the russet brown natural inclusions used to pick out the coats of the horses, the leaves, the grasses and the robes of the sages, well hollowed out.

This superb bottle is imbued with hidden meanings, inspired by both its brilliant carving and the poems incorporated in the design. The allusion to Bole's choice of the steed that would take him to victory in battle, is an instruction toward deliberative choice in critical times. Yet the inscription on the obverse balances the scales, by choosing enjoyment in the life of the by engaging in literary skills and knowledge of the past.
