Diameter of larger 2 3/8 in., 6 cm.; Diameter of smaller 2 1/4 in., 5.7 cm.

Moderate wear from use, "mirror" lacking box bottom; small ding to underside of complete box.

Inspired by Tang dynasty mirrors, each of the covers is decorated with a pair of stylized birds flanking an Imperial chrysanthemum mon, kiku. Underside of box stamped Jungin.
Note:
The lobed cover is closely related to a box and cover in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, a gift to commemorate the Coming of Age Ceremony of the Japanese Crown Prince in 1919.
