A few scattered small surface scratches and abrasions, some slight smudging to calligraphy, lacking spoon, small flake to side of lip, nearly invisible.

Of flattened rounded-rectangular form, the shoulders sloping to a short everted neck, with a slightly concave lip and protruding oval footrim, very well painted by Ma Shaoxuan to depict, on one main side, a scholar reading by candlelight at his desk in a small pavilion beneath a large pine tree, a full moon above and a boy attendant nearby, the reverse with a forty-character inscription preceded by the cyclical date dingyoui, equivalent to 1897, and followed by the signature and painted seal
