灞橋。借山圖之十。
余學畫山水，半生未能得其皮毛，嘗見人竊取珂羅板以自誇，余恥之，固不為已十七年矣。平子兄得見十五年前自畫借山圖冊，不以為醜，余居京華五年，得譽此冊山水，惟平公一人，強畫四圖贈之。辛酉夏，白石翁璜。

上款：「平子」，即狄葆賢，齊名「平等閣」。江蘇溧陽人。家富收藏，精鑒別。曾創辦〈時報〉及有正書局，影印各種書畫、畫、碑、帖，於傳播藝術，貢獻頗大。
註：白石老人在〈自述〉中曾謂將遊歷所得書稿，經整理加工重畫而成〈借山圖冊〉，時維一九一〇年。原圖共五十六幀，又有謂四十餘幀或五十二幀。一九一七年為陳師曾借去，歸來缺八幀，又有稱缺三十幀。最後僅剩廿餘幀。無論上述說法何種為確，該圖冊無疑是白石早期山水之彙集，在其創作上有階段性的意義。
按本幅題曰「借山圖之十」，取景灞橋，蓋整套〈借山圖〉皆取自著名景點，如滕王閣、獨秀山、小姑山等。白石日後亦一再重臨贈友人學生。因狄平子欣賞該圖冊，他遂寫四幅相贈。白石初抵京華，頗遭白眼，故得著名收藏鉅子賞識其作，自當報命寫此。從題識字裡行間仍見白石一貫「我行我素」的口吻，頗符合他「刪去臨摹手一雙」的創作觀。筆下灞橋有其獨特的透視法，與慣見寫山水的視點有異。原畫乃成扇，另面亦屬〈借山圖〉中景色之一，流出時被拆裝分為扇面兩幀。以此推論，題中所謂「強畫四圖」，極可能為成扇兩柄。
