The restrained elegance of this copper-red glazed brushpot follows the aesthetic established by Langyao red wares of the Kangxi period, whose luminous monochrome surfaces were particularly admired by Qing dynasty literati and collectors. Compare with a related copper-red glazed brushpot, Qing dynasty, which was sold at Christie's Paris, 10 December 2021, lot 732.
