註：玉蘭，又名望春花，乃北方最早開花的木本植物之一。齊白石居京華後，時以此花入畫，早年喜狀寫樹木亭亭，晚歲則著墨於花繁枝茂。本幅花苞佔滿枝頭，惟頂端數朵綻放，略點顏色，愈顯花姿繁盛，亦應畫題。押腳鈐「鬼神使之非人工」，知乃畫家得意之作。
一九四六年十月，齊白石應中華全國美術會邀請至南京舉辦畫展，十一月初赴滬，至歲末方返京華。本幅題「自白下還京華後製」，又寫應時之花，或可推知寫於四七年初春。
