Kangxi and Qianlong
Comprising: a dish decorated with a mob attacking the house of a chief bailiff of Rotterdam, all enclosed within a diaper band interspersed with floral cartouches, Chenghua six-character mark to the base; a cup similarly decorated with a panel enclosing a continuous scene of the riot and another panel with a banana tree; and a dish decorated with a view of Burghley House and a pheasant in flight, a band of foliate strapwork at the rim.
The largest: 22.5cm (8 7/8in) diam. (3).

John Drew (1933–2006) was born in Tideswell, Derbyshire, and educated at Sedbergh School and the Queen's College, Oxford. He spent the majority of his professional career as an archivist in various African countries, before taking up a post at the University of Cape Town in 1978.
