说明:Representing the pinnacle of pre-Qin metallurgy, the present warrior lamp is masterfully crafted with a bronze body and a separately cast silver head, seamlessly united and lavishly embellished with gold and silver inlay. The figure is superbly modeled with harmonious proportions and a dignified, commanding countenance. Its flowing drapery and intricate accessories are finely delineated, perfectly complemented by the opulent yet refined inlay.
Figural lamps of this type emerged during the Warring States period and continued into the Han dynasty. They typically depict palace attendants, warriors, or winged immortals in standing or crouching postures, and are generally piece-mold cast in bronze. However, the sophisticated technique seen on the present lot—riveting a separately cast silver head to a bronze body—is exceptionally rare. The only known comparable example appears to be a male attendant lamp excavated in 1976 from the tomb of the King of Zhongshan, Hebei province, included in the exhibition Warring States Treasures: Cultural Relics from the Tomb of the King of Zhongshan, Hebei Province, Hong Kong, 1999, cat. no. 23.
For a closely related bronze figural lamp, see an example formerly in the collection of J.J. Lally, now housed in the Princeton University Art Museum, illustrated in Bronze and Gold in Ancient China, New York, 2003, cat. no. 12. See also a later Han dynasty iteration of this form, sold at Christie's New York, 26th March 2010, lot 1275.
