Four-armed and seated in vajrasana on a lotus base, she holds her principal hands in dharmachakra mudra, while her upper hands hold a rosary and the Prajnaparamita Sutra, which she embodies. Newari artists of the Kathmandu Valley were renowned for their metalworking skills. The repousse technique, in which designs are raised by hammering metal from the reverse, was widely used to ornament architectural facades and other decorative objects. Perforations indicate it was intended to be attached to another object, possibly a manuscript cover. For a similar 17th-century Nepalese gilt-bronze figure of Prajnaparamita, see De Baecque, Art d'Asie, 20 March 2020, lot 75. For similar perforated repousse plaques dating to the 9th/10th century, see Cornette de Saint Cyr, Paris, 11 June 2018, lot 55.
