Qianlong four-character mark and of the period
Crisply cast as five mountain peaks, each side intricately decorated with two confronting dragons of opposing and vivid aubergine and yellow colors, chasing a beribboned swastika above cresting waves, the gilt-bronze stand incised with scrolling lotus to the profile, the base with a four-character Qianlong mark between two raised confronting dragons.
7 1/8in (18cm) wide brush rest only; 8 1/8in (20.5cm) wide stand

The present lot belongs to a small group of rare and imperial brush rests that can be found in Qing Court Collections, see one with a six-character Qianlong-marked gilt-bronze stand in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Metal Bodied Enamel Ware, Hong Kong, 2002, pl. 124; another similarly with a four-character Qianlong-marked stand is housed in the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum, collection no. 1161609325573152768.
