(Floating Wine Cups Along a Winding Stream) is a traditional Chinese scholarly gathering in which wine cups were set afloat on a winding stream. Participants seated along the banks would drink and compose poetry when a cup stopped before them. Originating in ancient China and famously associated with the 4th-century Orchid Pavilion gathering, it became a symbol of literary elegance, friendship, and refined leisure.
