The production of celadon-glazed wares at the Yaozhou kilns commenced in the early Tang dynasty and reached its peak during the Northern Song dynasty, when they were regarded as some of the finest ceramics of their period, with some designated as tribute wares for the Imperial Court. Consequently, Yaozhou became the premier centre for northern celadon production.
For related carving of the petals, see a Yaozhou celadon-glazed bowl moulded with three stylised flowers, Northern Song/Jin dynasty, illustrated in , vol.1, London, 1994, pl.431. Compare also a closely related Yaozhou celadon-glazed bowl, Northern Song dynasty, which was sold at Sotheby's London, 3 November 2021, lot 112.
