Jingdezhen, the porcelain with a short waisted neck, wide mouth, flat lip and protruding circular footrim, the milk-white body painted in underglaze cobalt blue to depict formalized chrysanthemums, other flowers, and scrolling stems, within an Islamic-inspired framework, the lip with five bats, the recessed base with a shou character in seal script, the interior floor with the character nai (“to endure”) in regular script.
Note: A possible Princely connection is suggested in the publication below by the unusually located interior character on the base. At least four similar “snuff pots” are known, differing in exterior decoration, most with five bats to the flat lip and a shou character to the base, and all with the nai character to the interior floor.
