If a condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot, it is for guidance purposes only. Such condition report may not refer to all faults, restoration, alterations, or adaptations because Sotheby's is not a professional conservator or restorer but rather a condition report is a statement of subjective, qualified opinion genuinely held by Sotheby's. For these reasons, any such condition report is not an alternative to taking your own professional advice regarding the condition of the lot. Prospective buyers should also refer to the Guide for Buyers at Auction which includes important notices concerning the type of property in this sale.

说明:The present censer, with almost a century of illustrious provenance, exemplifies an elusive and still largely understudied group of wares glazed in an unctuous and lightly crackled Jun-type blue glaze. Described as 'Ma Jun' or 'Soft Jun,' the precise dating and origins of these wares remain unknown. That said, stylistic comparisons of the present censer with contemporaneous forms from other Jun kiln sites appears to support a thirteenth century attribution.
Compare a very closely related Jun tripod censer sold in our New York rooms, 31st March and 1st April 2005, lot 31 with a softly crackled glazed appropriately compared with that of the famed Ru kilns; and another of this design excavated in 1962 from Huangzhuang, Yu county, Henan, in Henan sheng Bowuguan, Beijing, 1985, pl. 128.
For examples of related Ma Jun glazes, compare a meiping of similarly charming crackled glaze, sold from the collection of Mrs. Samuel T. Peters (1859-1943) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, at Christie's New York, 15th September 2016, lot 819; and a smaller tripod censer of thoroughly stained crackle in the Robert Lehman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (accession no. 1975.1.1672), illustrated in Suzanne G. Valenstein, The Robert Collection. Decorative Arts, vol. XV, New York, 2012, p. 306.
