Of flattened baluster form flanked by bird-form gilt-metal handles at the neck, the body elaborately carved with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang, on a dense ground of swirling waves between floral lappets, the waisted neck carved with a band of leaf lappets below a ruyi emblem and narrow band of ruyi-head reserved on a similar ground of swirling waves, the spreading foot carved with a pair of confronting dragons against a diaper ground, the mouth rim, neck and foot highlighted in gilt, fitted box.

Cinnabar lacquer wall vase of a similar form and design is rare. This decorative object was particularly preferred by the Qianlong Emperor for adorning his studio and typically appears in pairs, each inscribed with an Imperial poem. For example, there are two wall vases of comparable form and design from the Qing Court collection, now housed in the Palace Museum, Beijing (acc.nos.Gu00108958 and Gu00108959). Another pair, adorned with archaistic motifs, is preserved in the Palace Museum, Taipei, and illustrated in , 2014, pl.II-48.

乾隆剔紅壁瓶極為罕見，尤得乾隆皇帝青睞，多用於裝飾御書房，且通常成對出現并題御製詩。可見清宮舊藏中兩件形制與紋飾與本拍品相類之壁瓶，現藏於北京故宮博物院（館藏編號：故00108958及故00108959）。台北故宮博物院亦藏有另一對飾以仿古紋飾之例，收錄於《瓶盆風華 - 明清花器特展》，2014年，圖版II-48。
參閲一件吳權博士舊藏乾隆剔紅嵌玉題御製詩壁瓶，售於倫敦蘇富比，2022年11月1日，拍品編號65。
