Finely modelled as a rectangular trunk raised on four corner legs, the upper posts applied with amber-glazed bosses in imitation of metalwork rivets and accented with cobalt-blue dapples, the amber-glazed sides are further ornamented with moulded, blue-glazed lion-mask roundels flanking a simulated lock-loop, the top surface with prominent polychrome trefoil medallions alongside an amber-glazed hinged cover, bordered on either side by a register of three carved blossoms splashed in radiant blue, amber, and straw-cream glazes, the outer edges anchored by horizontal flanged borders similarly picked out in rich blue and amber hues, fitted box.

Miniature lead-glazed pottery chests of this refined architectural form were crafted as prestigious wares for the afterlife during the height of the Tang dynasty. Designed in imitation of contemporary iron-mounted wooden trunks used by wealthy merchants and court elites to store coinage and precious textiles, such models feature moulded details including corner rivets, protective lion-mask handles, and simulated lock plates. The inclusion of cobalt-blue glaze alongside the traditional amber, green, and cream sancai palette signifies the highest tier of luxury; derived from cobalt imported via the Silk Road, this rare pigment was reserved exclusively for high-status commissions.
See a similar blue-splashed and -glazed money chest, Tang dynasty, in the Shaanxi History Museum, Xi'an, acc.no.jiu-yi-511. Compare also a larger blue-splashed and -glazed money chest, Tang dynasty which was sold at Sotheby's New York, 18th-19th March 2014, lot 183.
此錢櫃形制精緻，並具建築風格，乃盛唐時期專為顯赫家族特造之明器佳作。其造型摹仿當時富商巨賈與宮廷顯貴用以貯藏錢幣與名貴織物之包鐵木箱，細部模印裝飾極其考究，包含邊角鉚釘、辟邪獅首鋪首及擬真鎖扣板。於傳統三彩中加入鈷藍釉點綴，更徵奢華地位。鈷藍為珍稀釉料，需經由絲綢之路進口，僅專用於高貴身分之特別訂製品。
參見陝西歷史博物館藏一件相近唐三彩加藍錢櫃，編號：九一511。另可比較一件尺寸較大之唐三彩加藍釉錢櫃，售於紐約蘇富比，2014年3月18至19日，拍品編號183。
