The cylindrical vessel slightly tapered, the indented mid-section divided into four panels by raised ribs and a 'ladder'-shaped decoration to one side, the slanted shoulders surmounting a straight neck with everted rim, the cover with sloping sides decorated with a disc-shaped ring centering the 'pearl'-shaped knop, the exterior covered with a thick translucent glaze stopping before the short ring foot, the base unglazed and revealing the fine white porcelaneous body.

It is extremely rare to see a white porcelaneous jar and cover of this large size and decoration. Further study is required for attribution of its production site. The shape of the cover and the 'pearl' knop is closely related to Ding vessels discovered at the Jingzhi Temple (built 977) in Dingzhou, Hebei province. The vessel with a wide mouth and generous barrel-shaped body indicate that it was made for storage. The modeling of the vertical ribs and the knob on the cover is quite disciplined, while the glaze application is not as careful as the finest Ding ware.
The overall form bears the reminiscence of funerary jar in the shape of grain storage. Compare, for example, a Qingbai funerary jar for grain offerings with closely related vertical 'ribs' decoration and a 'pearl' knobbed cover, illustrated in , Beijing, 1998, p. 74, no. 43.
The results of the thermoluminescence testing are consistent with the suggested dating of this lot, Oxford Authentication sample No. P126e85, 19 May 2026.
