This 18th century interpretation of a dolphin is utterly unrealistic with its scaled body and cartoon-like smile but it makes a striking and humorous image. Michael Archer illustrates a similar plate, Delftware in the Fitzwilliam Museum, 2013, p.97, B.24, thought to be Bristol.
