The dish is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, the centre painted with two geese standing beside the water beneath lotus blossoms and leafy stems, with rocky outcrops in the distance, a curling cloud and the sun above completing the scene. The rim is divided into eight panels with cartouches, alternately painted with flowers, peaches, and precious objects decorated with diaper motifs. These are separated by narrow sections containing diamond and dot motifs, with scale motifs and fretwork above and below, echoing the decoration surrounding the central scene.
The reverse follows a similar panelled arrangement, with cartouches containing lingzhi sprays and narrow divisions filled with stylised cloud motifs, all rendered in the characteristic decorative style of Kraak porcelain.
