Southern Song Dynasty, with stamped Gongyu mark
The deep rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim and with an indented 'finger groove' below the lip on the exterior, covered inside and out with a thick, lustrous black glaze, the glaze ending on the exterior where the sides are angled in, the lower sides and the small disc-shaped foot well-pared and unglazed, revealing the coarse dark-brown stoneware body, the underside of the foot with a stamped Gongyu mark.
4 7/8in (12.4cm) diam; 2 7/8in (7.3cm) high (Japanese wood box).

A black-glazed Jian tea bowl with carved mark was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 4 December 2024, lot 9544.
