the scrolled backrest above armrests carved with hairy lion's-head terminals on moulded curved supports continuing to a slightly bow-fronted seat rail on four tapering square front legs with claw feet; the back with two sabre legs and later central turned circular tapering leg

说明：The prolific Louis XVI menuisier Georges Jacob (1739-1814;, maître in 1765) was a great innovator in chair design and one of the earliest of the ancien régime joiners to work in solid mahogany, notably on the celebrated suite of 'Etruscan' seat furniture created after designs by the painter Hubert Robert for Marie-Antoinette's laiterie (dairy) at the Château de Rambouillet, formerly displayed in the Petit Trianon at Versailles and recently returned to its original setting. Ornamental motifs inspired by Roman antiquity such as the scrolled back rest, lion's mask terminals and paw feet became increasingly prominent in Jacob's output during the Revolutionary and Directoire periods of the 1790s, particularly after his workshop was taken over by his sons Georges II (1768-1803) and François-Honoré Jacob (1770-1841) under the name Jacob Frères in 1796.
