An elegant ovoid jar, rising from a neatly finished foot to a rounded body with gently sloping shoulders and a short neck with a thickened rim, richly decorated in vibrant underglaze cobalt blue. The neck is encircled by a stylised foliate scroll, while the shoulder is decorated with chrysanthemum medallions and half-rosettes reserved against a ground of cash-coin motifs.
The body is finely painted with four Daoist Immortals, each depicted within wave-shaped reserves separated by elegant spiral motifs. One Immortal is seated upon a carp, another upon a floating tree branch holding a fan and a suspended gourd, a third rides a flying crane while carrying a ruyi sceptre, and the fourth is shown seated upon a cloud holding a fan. The principal scene is framed above and below by bands of foliate scrolls executed in reverse decoration. The lower body is further decorated with a band of upright lappets.
