This kapala follows a form traditionally fashioned from a human cranium, yet here it is masterfully executed in metal. Its shape follows the contours of a skull, while the exterior is adorned with a continuous high‑relief frieze of jewelled pendants and garlands.
At the centre of the rim stands a gilded figure of Ganesha, flanked on the opposite side by three gilded skulls. The vessel is supported by three winged skulls that serve as feet, adding both symbolic weight and sculptural presence. While rooted in ritual function, this piece also stands as a work of considerable artistic refinement. It is a fine example of 17th‑century Nepalese metalwork, where technical skill and devotional intent are seamlessly united. For a related bronze Nepalese kapala, see an example in the Rubin Museum of Art collection, listed on Himalayan Art Resources (HAR 65333).
