说明:The Crosby family occupies a distinguished place in American cultural and intellectual history. Sumner McKnight Crosby Jr. (1937-2007) was a descendant of Professor Sumner McKnight Crosby (1909–1982), the internationally renowned Yale University art historian and archaeologist, and one of the foremost twentieth-century authorities on the Royal Abbey of Saint-Denis in France. Professor Crosby devoted more than four decades to Yale. During the Second World War, he participated in the Allied Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, contributing to the protection and preservation of Europe’s cultural heritage. In recognition of his scholarly achievements and his contributions to the preservation of French cultural patrimony, he was later awarded the rank of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by the French government. His papers are preserved in the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, underscoring his enduring significance in the field of art history.
